Yezi Hu’s Three Minute Thesis

Ideology of Current China

Since people in China stopped believing communism after the cold war, new values have been introduced to the ideological system to support the regime’s legitimacy, making the current ideology in China complex and perplexing. This study performed media content analysis and factor analysis to solve the ideological puzzles of current China, examining the salience of 12 Socialist Core Values that the Chinese Communist Party is promoting in Chinese media. It confirmed the existence of the ideological hierarchy and the 5 latent themes under the discussion of the values in People’s Daily. Since ideology is the foundation of a country’s economy and politics, this study helps the world more understand the logic behind Chinese policies and behaviors.
