Easing Access to Early Childhood Learning with Micronesian Islanders: A Quality Improvement Project in a Culturally Diverse Community

“My presentation describes overcoming a historical culture of mistrust to gain entrĂ©e into a Micronesian Islander Community organization in order to partner with Parent Leaders from the community in building a toolkit that these Parent Leaders can utilize to assist families with enrolling in early childhood learning programs as a step to building resiliency to adverse childhood experiences and improving health outcomes. Our work is done through a lens of cultural responsibility and social justice.”

About Steven

“I am in my final semester of the DNP-FNP program at the WSU Vancouver campus. I have a diverse nursing background working with diverse populations in varying levels of acuity. I have extensive leadership experience from my career prior to becoming a nurse. Most importantly, I am a husband to my wife of nearly 16 years, and a father to my almost 11 year old son. I am proud of the work that our team has completed on my project, and I look forward to continuing meaningful work as I transition to practice as a nurse practitioner.”
