Bahae Samhan’s Three Minute Thesis

Why Do People Resist Healthcare IT?  Literature Analysis, Model Testing and Refinement

My dissertation will examine the phenomenon of technology resistance in the healthcare settings. The dissertation will be structured in an essay format.  Essay one will review the literature to highlight the current status of research in this area. This essay will reveal the main research gaps in the literature. Essay two will empirically compare theories of technology resistance to understand resistance of Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Essay three will refine qualitatively the essay 2’s findings.  The dissertation will provide several outcomes including an extensive review of the literature in this critical area, explanation and theoretical understanding of how healthcare information technology (HIT) resistance is being conceptualized, an empirical assessment through model comparison, and qualitative findings confirming the conceptualization of the HIT resistance construct.
