Understanding School Truancy: Risk-Need Profiles of Adolescents

Utilizing a statistical model known as Latent Profile Analysis (LPA), we describe underlying groups of respondents to The Washington Assessment of the Risks and Needs of Students (WARNS).We have found three distinct groups that represent a spectrum of risky behaviors, these profiles predict negative truant outcomes such as arrests and suspensions. These groupings may enable us to target interventions and services in ways that better serve the individuals they encompass.

Educational Psychology

Andrew is a third year Ph.D. in the Educational Psychology department. His research interests include: psychometrics, automated essay scoring, and fairness.
