A Strategy for Diffusing Educational Technology Among In-Service Teachers

The probability that teachers will adopt and use technology effectively is low; this is the case even though many institutions spend large amounts of money on new versions of software. This may stem from the lack of professional development and the absence of teachers’ motivation toward integrating technology. The presenter will share a strategy for diffusing educational technology.

Language, Literacy, and Technology

Abir El Shaban has taught all levels of ESOL, to students at private/ public schools, and adult education. She has degrees in education, including a B.A. and MA TESOL. She worked as a technology coach and trained English teachers at the University of Illinois at Springfield how to use Educational Technology effectively in Fall 2015. In addition, she has presented her work at 16 conferences, such as WAESOL, TESOL, CALICO, the Third Twenty First Century Academic Forum at Harvard, the African Studies Association and the Middle East Dialogue Forum.

Abir has several professional interests, including computer-assisted language learning (CALL), innovation, education technology, teacher education, students’ engagement, cross-cultural learning. She strives to create a supportive environment encouraging to learning. Her dissertation is about understanding the process behind the successful diffusion of educational technology among in-service teachers.

She has taught in Libya and the USA. In addition to English, she speaks Arabic fluently.
